It’s US publication day for Face with Tears of Joy!

Thye book "Face with Tears of Joy", showing the face with tears of joy emoji throughout emoji history
Face with Tears of Joy. (W. W. Norton, 2025.)

It’s publication day! Face with Tears of Joy: A Natural History of Emoji is published today in the USA.* You can order a copy from Norton, Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, Books A Million, Bookshop.org, Hudson, Powell’s, or Walmart.

There are even more people to thank than usual for helping bring the book to fruition. My agent Laurie Abkemeier; Brendan Curry, Caroline Adams, and Anna Oler at W. W. Norton; Beth Steidle for design; and Rachelle Mandik for copyediting. Keith Broni at Emojipedia, Matt Sephton, Matt Alt, and Plum Ertz all helped me understand one aspect of emoji or another, and there are many others who did so too. And as ever, my wife Leigh was a tireless supporter throughout the writing process. Thank you all!

I hope you enjoy the book, and please let me know what you think!

For readers in the rest of the world, the book will be published on the 17th of this month — also known as World Emoji Day!
