Testing the new/old Shady Characters

As I mentioned last time, I’ve been working on a new version of blog that doesn’t rely on WordPress. That new version is just about ready to go, and I’d love to get your thoughts on it before I switch over to it permanently. A preview is available at https://staging.shadycharacters.co.uk, if you want to take a look; everything should look and work much as it does at the moment, although commenting, newsletter subscriptions and the contact page are now handled via email rather than in-page forms.

Please have a poke around and let me know what you think! If you find broken links, or images, or formatting — anything at all, really, that doesn’t seem right — please let me know in the comments here or over at the new place.

The email buttons for comments and for newsletter subscriptions don’t seem to be active yet, though this is perhaps intentional.

On the Privacy Policy page, the “Contact emails” section still states “When you email me via the contact form” as opposed to “When you email via the contact button” or the like.

Other than that, so far it looks great!

    Seems quite nice. Good luck.

Looks good! I see posts say how many comments but I don’t see those comments so not sure if you intend to migrate comments as well as enable them?

The new site looks good, Keith. I didn’t find any problems. I’d be interested to know what platform (if any) you’re using now (if you don’t mind talking about it).

Thanks all! All noted and will be fixed as soon as possible.

Ralph — I’m using a static site generator called 11ty, along with a lot of custom Javascript and CSS. I’ll try to put together a more detailed post soon.
